Takulandirani! Today upon arrival and a warm welcome by our guide you will set of for Viphya Plateau spending tour first night at Luwawa Forest Lodge. The plateau is dissected and aligned parallel to the Great Lift Valley dotted with grassland hills called inselbergs descending into Lake Malawi. The plateau forms the spine of Northern Malawi with its highest peaks rising over 1800m above sea level. To visit the Viphya is to experience the wild! Though there are large areas of commercial forestry, the colorful bird life is famous through activities like guided long distance hikes, horse riding and mountain bike safaris. Luwawa Forest Lodge offers a pleasant and malaria-free climate, overlooking Luwawa Dam which is well stocked with a variety of fish.
Day 1 – 2: Viphya Plateau – Luwawa Forest Lodge
Day 2 – 4: Luwawa Forest Cycling Adventure
Luwawa Mountain Bike trails is 150Km distance. Three days are sufficient to take up cycling stretch. We will lodge at Kasito Forest Lodge with all facilities provided on the first night. On the second night we camp outside Kawalazi Estate Club House. Cycling on this trail will be as follows:
Day 1. 42km approximately – 4hrs including breaks
Day 2. 36km approximately – 4hrs including breaks
Day 3. 40km approximately – 5hrs including breaks
All food and refreshments, camping, biking equipment for the 3 days will be provided, along with guides, bike mechanic and first aid equipment
Day 4 – 6: Makuzi Beach Lodge – Chintheche
Days off the saddle shall be spent here! Makuzi Beach Lodge is situated in the lush Northern Shores of Lake Malawi. A white sanded beach and only one of its private land. The lodge offers stunning views of the lake and across, worth your nights.
Day 6 – 8: Nyika National Park – Chelinda Camp
Today you will be transfer from Makuzi Beach to Nyika National Park and shall camp at Chelinda Lodge which is located in the heart of Nyika Plateau within Nyika National Park. The lodge is nestled in the alpine highlands of the park where you have a view of rolling hills. It gets cold in the evening and hence warm clothes are recommended to supplement the provided fire places. Here you will enjoy several activities that include bush walks, mountain biking, birding and game drives.
Day 8 – 10: Hiking Trails - Nyika National Park
It’s going to be a 2 night adventure here of simply walking, almost 6hours/a day. We will get to Phata stream for our first camping. On the second day we will descent through the Mwenembwe Forest to the boundaries of Nyika national Park at Chakaka Village. The third day takes us to the steep side of North Rumphi Valley through Malawian Villages then we do our final ascent to Livingstonia.
There are basic accommodation along the trails with ablution to keep you on the go. Our guides will advise you on the do and don’ts regards to water and food as you enjoy the trails towards the boundaries of the park.
Day 10 – 12: Livingstonia – Sangilo Sanctuary Lodge
Day 12: Transfer to Lilongwe
Day 13: Transfer to the Lilongwe International Airport. End of tour. Zikomo!
