The food here is brilliant, Jes has done an incredible job creating food that is renowned across the country. All the ingredients are grown on the working farm including most of the meat. Having trained globally, Jes infuses her worldly knowledge with Malawian flavours and ingredients to produce some of the best meals we have had in Malawi. It is a firm favourite amongst the locals which should tell you everything you need to know.
The rooms here are spacious airy bright and quiet, all of them have private verandas that look out into the gardens. Because the lodge is on a farm you are surrounded by lush peaceful greenery, with a huge amount of birdlife, including owls which permanently reside in the dining room ceiling. The rooms themselves have comfortable, king-sized beds and large en-suite bathrooms, it is the perfect place to unwind and wash away a long flight or rest before your onward departure.
There is actually a lot to do and see at Kumbali, such as touring the farm and tasting their homemade feta and yoghurt. Bird watching is a fun way to while away some time in the sunshine in their 650-hectare forest reserve. They have a collection of antique cars which you can view and you can visit the permaculture centre which is right next to the kindergarten that Kumbali sponsor. Do let them know if you are interested in community visits, they have strong ties with the surrounding community and have several projects on the go which they would love to introduce you to.
